Energy Vampires and How to Slay Them
Halloween is almost here, but do you know what’s really scary? Those money-sucking energy vampires draining your household of money. And winter time, just around the corner, can be the worst time of year.
So, do you know which areas of your home are draining energy, and money?
TVs & Appliances
TV sets and other household appliances that remain plugged in constantly can suck up to and over 1,400 kilowatt hours annually. The simplest way to save that energy? Just unplug them when you’re not home or using them.
Video Games
Game consoles like PlayStation, Xbox, and Wii can waste around 230 kilowatt hours a year. If you don’t want to unplug them, they often have a second “off” switch hidden on the back, which actually kills the power.
Laptop Computers & Cell Phone Chargers
Your computers and cell phones are other energy-sucking culprits. While you may love charging them while you’re gone all day (or overnight), it’s far more energy conscious to simply charge the batteries as-needed. Even when those devices are fully charged, if they are plugged into the wall, they are still using energy. Heck, cell phone chargers are the easiest items to unplug-they’re useless without your phone!
Those Invisible Air Leaks
You are savvy, and have likely already used Foam it Green to insulate at least one area of your home. But have you checked them all? If your basement is well insulated, but your attic isn’t, then those money-sucking energy vampires are still alive and kicking. October is a great time to check your home and get it all buttoned up before the truly cold months of winter.
So, unplug, button up your home, and drive away those energy vampires for good. Then, you can focus on a fun way to spend all that extra cash next Spring!
